RouteSprout LLC provides transit service assessment, planning, and implementation support to transit agencies, universities, airports, and any other operators of fixed-route or microtransit services. We work directly with transit operators, or in a supporting role as part of a larger consulting team.

At RouteSprout, our ultimate mission is to help transit providers launch effective, efficient, and appealing transit services - in other words, to help routes sprout! To achieve this mission, we take a holistic approach to service design that is both data-driven and informed by stakeholder input and industry best practices. While we love to see routes sprout, we also recognize that fixed-route service is not always the best fit for every community. With more mobility tools available than ever before, RouteSprout can help communities determine not only where transit service should go, but also what type of transit service should go where.

RouteSprout is supporting a diverse range of projects and clients across North America. Below is a sample of our recent and on-going work aimed at improving mobility for current and prospective riders.

DCT suspended fixed-route operations in favor of on-demand service during the COVID-19 pandemic, and has continued operating on-demand service only. The Workforce Transportation Study aimed to document existing conditions and commuter travel trends; survey key business stakeholders and employers on mobility needs; and lay out near-term, mid-term and longer-term plans for developing employee-focused transportation solutions for the County. RouteSprout led the transit market analysis and and development of preliminary service improvement recommendations, including the expansion of microtransit service to the southern tier of Delaware County. Based on these recommendations, DCT plans to launch its third microtransit zone in 2026.

FHATA (aTaBus) serves the Flint Hills Region of Kansas, including Manhattan, Junction City, and the campus of Kansas State University. The System-Wide Transit Services Study focused on developing recommendations to reverse the agency’s falling ridership, serve existing riders better, and attract and retain both new riders and funding partners. The RouteSprout team led both the service and market analyses, and led a robust outreach effort including surveys, stakeholder meetings, and engagement with frontline staff. The final recommendations included a phased approach to implementation, starting with the introduction of more frequent regional service between Manhattan and Junction City; optimized local service in each community; and long-term introduction of app-based microtransit service.

Laredo, TX experiences heavy traffic congestion on a daily basis due to high volumes of truck traffic coming and going across the international border. In addition, hundreds of pedestrians per day visit Laredo from Mexico for work, school, shopping, family visits, and other purposes. The Microtransit Feasibility Study aimed to identify the potential of microtransit to complement El Metro's fixed-route network and help address the unique mobility needs of Laredo. The RouteSprout team led several key tasks including a transit market assessment, case studies and peer interviews, and the development of preliminary zone recommendations.

CMRTA (The Comet) serves South Carolina’s capital city, which is also home to the University of South Carolina. CMRTA sought to reduce the number of buses that meet at COMET Central, Columbia’s downtown transit center, at any given time to reduce congestion. The RouteSprout team led the development of a service improvement plan that helped reduce downtown congestion by staggering arrival schedules at COMET Central. The plan also identified opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of The COMET network through the strategic use of route interlines. After adoption by the CMRTA Board, the revised COMET network went into service in September 2025.
